Irwell Sculpture Trail, Bury
Described as 'a major £4 million cultural adventure' , Irwell is the largest public art scheme in the North West. Stretching along the River Irwell from the hills of Rossendale through to leafy and urban Salford, the trail will ultimately showcase 50 major pieces of art along its length. These will include the work of both international artists and local sculptors, as the trail builds to become a unique, eclectic and inspiring range of works. The trail follows an existing 30-mile footpath up the Irwell Valley Way stretching from Salford Quays on the edge of Manchester, through Bury into Rossendale and up to the Pennine Moors above Bacup. A walk along the River Irwell from Rawtenstall to Irwell Vale takes in several of the sculptures.
